Questions

Things people ask.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

For most roles, no — English-only volunteers are warmly welcome. For Language Support and Youth Program roles, conversational Spanish is a real asset. Any Spanish you bring is a gift, not a requirement.

How much time does volunteering take?

It depends on the role. Saturday Studio shifts run about four hours. Festival crew is a full weekend. Outreach and documentation are flexible. Tell us your availability and we'll match you to something realistic.

Can I volunteer if I have no arts background?

Absolutely. Studio Assistant is great for artists, but Festival Crew, Outreach, and Youth Program roles don't require any art experience. What matters is warmth and reliability. The rest we'll teach you.

I'm under 18. Can I still volunteer?

Yes — volunteers aged 14–17 are welcome in most roles when accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you're under 14 and want to get involved, reach out directly at hola@decolores.org.

Is there a background check?

For Youth Program roles only. We'll walk you through the process at no cost to you after your application is accepted.

I volunteered before and want to come back.

Welcome back! Submit the form again with a note in "Tell us about yourself" and we'll fast-track you — or just email hola@decolores.org directly.
